Some chicken-related headline

JULIAN SIEBER and DANIEL PURCELL

A chicken in the US was yesterday charged with jaywalking across the busy intersection of Astor and Shelley St.

An official statement from the New York Police Department states the chicken, 36, was reported to have crossed the road at a brisk pace and almost caused a head-on collision.

NYPD is investigating the chicken’s motive but this is proving to be quite a challenge, according to Senior Officer Sgt Wyatt.

“We went around asking people why he would want to cross the road, but we seem to be receiving a variety of answers,” said Sgt Wyatt.

“Some young punk would-be comedians even said ‘to get to the other side’ and as a result we have decided to put an end to the fowl behaviour of these troublemakers.

“We aren’t yet eggsactly sure what we are dealing with yet, but rest assured that the officers down at the station are at the top of the pecking order in this city, not some chicken and her pedestrian antics.

“Some may see this as a minor offence, but we can't eggsaggerate the effect of one bad egg on the rest of society. After looking through this chicken’s files, we know that she’s clucked up a lot over the years and now we have to do whats best for everyone.

“We have to make an eggsample of this perpetrator, and keep her couped up behind bars. Once she has served 3 -4 years, hopefully her time as a jailbird will cause others to chicken out of committing felonies in this town.”
