Perth Glory admit name choice was ‘silly’
PATRICK WILLIAMS
A recent string of average results coupled with several disappointing seasons has forced Perth Glory owner, Tony Sage, to admit that the team’s choice of nickname may have been a poor one.
“Yes we realise it probably was not as well thought out as it could have been” Sage said, in response to a series of jokes in reference to the ‘glory’ part of the team name being made by managers throughout the league.
“There isn’t much we can do now though, apart from trying to win a game or two. You wouldn’t know how that’s done by any chance would you? We’re seriously scraping the bottom of the ideas barrel at the moment.”
“Because yeah, we think, its something to do with goals? Its goals they’re called, yeah? I mean, if we can get that sorted out, and make sure we convert our field goals, we should be up the top of the table come September. Just between you and me we’ve also been focusing on our three-point shooting, which should give us the edge in the close games.”
When asked for comment, Adelaide United manager Aurelio Vidmar stated that he thought the nickname ‘glory’ was always setting up the team for ridicule.
“Win, lose or draw, we’re still Adelaide United FC. Last time I checked there’s no glory in losing,” Stated Vidmar. “It’s for that same reason that there is no team called ‘Tottenham winners’ or ‘Manchester didn't drop the treble by choking to Portsmouth in round 6 of the FA Cup’.”
