Hawks ‘Totally didn’t want to play finals anyway’

PATRICK WILLIAMS

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson last night issued a tirade of provocative statements after his team’s narrow loss to Essendon in the post match interview.

“Finals footy is so 2008”, Clarkson was heard muttering before the officially post match conference began.

“Like we’re not even disappointed or anything hey. We’ve totally done it before and we were really looking for something more fresh anyway.”

“We totally got like this invite to the NRL finals. Yeah, you probably haven’t heard if it. Only cool teams really get invited. They’re on at the same time, and we figured that we’re just above the whole AFL finals thing now.”

Clarkson responded angrily to one journalist’s suggestion that his friend knew all the teams going to the NRL final, and that the Hawks were totally not invited.

“Are you calling me a liar? That’s such a bitch thing to do. Like seriously, just because you didn’t get invited to last year’s premiership after party, doesn’t mean you have to be angry at us. I mean it’s not our fault that you had to be at least this hot to get it”, said Clarkson, while pointing at his face.

With the loss, the Hawks became the first team since Adelaide in 1999 to not make the top 8 the year after winning the premiership. They also became the first team since Adelaide to prove how big a joke their premiership win actually was.
