Police catch record number of drug dealers with ingenious ‘become a fan of selling drugs’ Facebook ploy

PATRICK WILLIAMS

In what has been described as one of the most successful police operations in recent years, Police Commissioner Karl O’Callaghan today announced the official arrest figures for operation “Drug Web”.

“The Western Australian Police Department has always been a fan of new age tactics. It’s true. Just check our Facebook.

“It was quite a simple operation really. We just posted links in the ‘become a fan of standing in alleyways at night time’ page as well as a link in the ‘become a fan of saying “The first one’s free” in a seedy voice’ page. The response was astounding. 542 fans within the hour.”

The fan page itself, which lists the Commissioner as the creator, has cast doubt over other similar pages on Facebook. Despite several other fan pages also naming him as creator, Mr O’Callaghan denied he had any knowledge of their existence.

“No I did not know there were fan pages for ‘jaywalking’, ‘speeding’ and ‘holding a general sense of distain for the police force’,” stated Mr O’Callaghan, while winking continuously at reporters in the conference room.

When queried if he would attempt similar operations on Myspace, the Commissioner seemed reserved.

“Myspace? What is that, like an astronomy type website or something? Do I look like I work for NASA?”
