Daniel Rich’s name a 'once in a decade' pun opportunity: Cometti
PATRICK WILLIAMS
Dennis Cometti has joined a growing number of sports writers and commentators describing the potential of young footballer Daniel Rich’s name as ‘sports pun gold’.
After observing Rich’s last game for the Brisbane Lions, in which he amassed 32 possessions and kicked 3 goals, Cometti was licking his lips at the prospects of the future star.
“It really is something special, isn’t it?” said Cometti. “The obvious one is ‘Rich vein of form’ or ‘Bankable talent’. If you really wanted to get creative with your sports pun headlines you could even go for something like ‘Too rich, too young, too fast’.”
“Your options really expand assuming he gets into a juicy contract dispute later on in his career,” Cometti added. “‘Contract not Rich enough’ or ‘Big pay deal makes Daniel Rich’ are just a few I came up with then. Potential like this is something you really only see once a decade.”
When queried as to what he thought about Rich’s actual playing ability, Cometti seemed distracted.
“Sorry what was that?” Cometti said, writing something down on a piece of paper while chuckling. “Get this, assuming he gets off of a controversial suspension sometime in his career, what about ‘System favours the Rich’. Haha! I’m on fire.”
